Twin Magazine Is Born Today

Twin Magazine Is Born Today: "

With the recession still freezing salaries at longstanding titles while unabashedly robbing others of their jobs, it’s refreshing to see that not everyone is looking quite so grimly at the world’s current economic status.

Launching tonight in London is Twin, a new glossy that combines fashion and art. And its first issue is packed with big-name contributors like Miranda July, Carol Ann Duffy, and Garance Doré, not to mention model spreads featuring Freja Beha Erichson and Kim Noorda.

And the staff—an all-star cast made up of magazine pedigree with EIC Becky Smith (founder and former creative director of Lula), art director Francesca Gavin (who also currently labors at Dazed & Confused and British Elle), features editor Aimée Farrell (with daytime duties at British Vogue)—would like you to know a little bit about their new baby:

  • TWIN is closer to a book than a magazine

  • TWIN is strong, sensual and independent—like its readers

  • TWIN offers considered and uncomplicated art and fashion

  • TWIN loves creative women but does not worship empty celebrity

  • TWIN peels back the gloss and gets back to the basics of magazine-making

  • Substance over surface is our motto

Of course our interest was piqued. We visited their site and found a behind-the-scenes look at Freja’s photo shoot that was full of leather, lip gloss, and up-close shots of her numerous tattoos. We swoon.

That first issue can’t find its way to us fast enough. ~ Jessica Mahler
