X-RAY, Delphine Tréanton & Eric Traoré

X-RAY, Delphine Tréanton & Eric Traoré: "

Eric Traoré's x-ray images styled by Delphine Tréanton

Attending her first Margiela show in the 1980s with her mother Melka, French stylist Delphine Tréanton has a long history with the house. Delphine is one of the top stylists and ex-French Glamour editor, and today her contributions grace the pages of magazines such as French Vogue, FEMMES, Madame Figaro and more.

For her contribution to A#1, Delphine worked with photographer Eric Traoré, to create a stunning series of x-ray style images of Maison Martin Margiela garments, transforming them into ghostly artworks. The delicate play of shadows and the exposure of all layers of fabric creates a skeletal effect, as though they are scientific or mathematical drawings of the clothes. The signature stitches and labels of the house are clearly visible in the images, with the two dresses directly above and below featured in the print magazine. Continue to scroll below to see the entire series.

A graduate of the Louis Lumière photographic school in Paris, Eric has worked within the realms of artistic fashion photography for many years, contributing to magazines such as DUTCH, French Vogue, Visionaire and Citizen K. In November of 2002 he exhibited these particular images in the Galerie Jean Brolly in Paris, using the term ‘garment compression’ to describe the effect of the photographs and the resulting shift in the perception of the clothes as something eternal rather than just seasonal items.

[NB: The spread also featured a reprint of the very first editorial that Delphine styled with Maison Martin Margiela garments, with two models back-to-back sporting white Margiela jackets and dark skirts underneath. The shoot was originally published in Glamour in 1992. See it in the magazine here ]
